Market Street Redevelopment

Market Street

Located in the St. Lawrence Market District, the Market Street Redevelopment project included three mid-to late-nineteenth century heritage buildings: 8 Market Street, 87 Front Street, and 10-12 Market Street and a new building at 118 The Esplanade. Conservation work was concentrated on the stabilization of the two-storey brick façade of 10-12 Market Street during construction of a new steel-frame structure.  Work on the façade included extensive masonry repairs, the replication of second-storey wood windows, a brick parapet, and the recreation of a missing wood cornice. The ground floor was rebuilt in a modern style to distinguish old from new.  A two-storey addition to the south was also constructed using red sandstone to blend with the adjacent red brick. The project extended to a pedestrian focused redesign of Market Street.
